The Educator Hat
I am an educator because I love learning and enjoy helping others develop that same passion for learning. My interest in the education field began at the age of 16. I worked with younger students and found that my place was helping others learn.

Along the way, I became interested in how I could help students be literate in the 21st century. It was this question that sparked my interest in disciplinary literacy and educational technology. Eventually, I plan to pursue Doctoral degree in one or both of these topics. In the meantime, I look forward to becoming more involved in the literacy and educational technology communities!

After I began teaching, I realized that I had many questions regarding literacy. I felt I was missing critical information that would allow me to take my students further. It was this need to know more that started my literacy journey.

When I am not teaching, researching, or coaching, my family is my focal point. I am fortunate to be married to my very best friend and we have a wonderful little boy. My son, Everett, is the center of my universe right now. He is one year old and is absorbing so much every day. It has been amazing to watch him grow and learn.
I, of course, enjoy reading. My favorite time to read is on my way to work. My commute is a bit longer than normal, but that time has become my sacred-audiobook-time! I love listening to books, especially those read by the author.
My favorite genres are historical fiction and suspense/psychological thrillers. More often than not, I am reading a YA book. I enjoy reading the same books as my sweet middle school students. I love being able to talk about and share books with them!
In addition to reading, I enjoy cooking, writing, movies, visiting parks with my family, going out for breakfast (my all-time favorite meal), and amateur graphic design. I could spend all day just creating on my computer! When I am really feeling nerdy, I even enjoy playing the SIMS PC game.
